Julie Wiegand

I was born in 1956 into a family of artists and musicians. We lived in the beautiful Missouri River bottoms area of Chesterfield, surrounded by farm fields and historic cottonwood and oak trees. Expressing myself through painting, drawing, music, and dance came naturally to me at an early age and I gratefully continue on this journey.

Every painting that I admire becomes a lesson. I have had the good fortune to have studied with some of the wonderful painters of our time and continue to grow and learn from them and all of the artists that I meet along my path.

I find myself joyfully connecting to nature and people though my art! My connection to nature is heartfelt and lifelong, and I am grateful to be living in rural Missouri on 14 acres of beautiful land. My husband and I renovated an 1868 limestone schoolhouse into our home and my studio and gallery. We are near the two artful and thriving river towns of New Haven and Hermann, in the rolling hills of one of Missouri’s wine regions.
We host events here at Lyon School Studio & Gallery, including my biannual Studio Sale & our annual Spring House Concert. I offer classes and mentoring on an ongoing basis. I welcome visitors to my studio anytime by appointment.

In addition to Lyon School Studio & Gallery, I show my paintings at Astral Glass Studio, New Haven, Mo; Gallery Augusta, Augusta, Mo; Harvest Table, Hermann, Mo; Kodner Gallery, St Louis, Mo; & The Heartland Art Club, St Louis, Mo See me as a featured artist in the film: Where the Rivers Run, produced by Nine Network .

Artist Statement

A large percentage of my oils are painted en plein air and I truly enjoy this challenging  and rewarding work. Many of my plein air  subjects then become larger studio works. I am drawn to simple compositions  and strive to convey  the feelings of my chosen subjects—solitude, peace, joy,  and  excitement—-within landscape, figurative, and still life murals and oil painting  There is true joy for me in capturing a mood with  color and light.
My  work can be seen at Astral Glass,  New Haven, Mo,  Gallery Augusta, Augusta, Mo, Harvest Table, Hermann, Mo, Kodner Gallery, Ladue, Mo, The Galleries at Heartland Art Club, St. Louis, Mo  &  at my biannual studio sales, or by appointment at my home/studio.
